Dr. Eva-Maria Tsapakis / Short Bio

Eva-Maria Tsapakis, BSC (Hons), MBBS, MSc, MRCPSYCH, PHD (London), is a psychiatrist and the Scientific Director of “Agios Charalambos” Mental Health Clinic (AX Clinic). She studied Pharmacology at King’s College of London and Medicine in the Medical School of St. George’s University of London.

She was a psychiatric intern at St. George’s University Hospitals, Springfield and at Maudsley & Royal Bethlem of London. She has been a member of the Royal College of Britain’s psychiatrists since 2003, when she received their unique scholarship for studies abroad. She continued her training on Mood Disorders at the International Center for Bipolar Disorder under the direction and supervision of Ross Baldessarini at the MCLean Hospital of Harvard University’s Medical School. Upon her return to London, she continued to work in the National Health System of Britain as an attending psychiatrist until she took over the scientific direction of AX Mental Health Clinic in 2011.

In 2003, she completed her studies in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy at the University of London (St. George’s Hospital) and in 2006 she acquired a diploma in Clinical Psychopharmacology at the British Association for Psychopharmacology. In 2007, she acquired a Postgraduate Diploma (MSc) in Affective Neuroscience at the University of Maastricht, while in 2009 she completed her doctoral dissertation at the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of London, in psycho-pharmacogenetic and psycho-pharmacogenomics.

Dr. Tsapakis has participated in the writing of many original scientific articles and a book titled: “Α Schizophrenia Manual”, published in 2005. She has earned several distinctions and awards, including the “Young Scientist” Award at the 11th Winter Science Laboratory for Schizophrenia (2002), the Research Award at the 5th International Neuropsychiatry Congress (2004), the Young Researcher Award at the 20th Schizophrenia International Research Society and the Poster Publication Award at the 3rd International Brain and Behavioral Conference (2007).

Today, she is a visiting researcher and collaborator in the International Society for Bipolar Disorders of Harvard’s Medical School and a scientific associate at the 1st Department of Psychiatry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
